First lab

  • Blog setup

This first lab aims to give us tools. Therefore, I started to fill and create my blog. I chose to use Hugo as advised by our teachers.

Process

I use the quick start of Hugo to create my project. As a mac user, I am used to homebrew and no difficulty occurred : https://gohugo.io/getting-started/quick-start/ All my modifications were then made with Jetbrain’s IDE : PHP Storm.

Then, I only had to discover all the themes and to pick them.

I liked 3 different themes : simplicity and stip, forty. Simplicity is a modern design, very sleek to enable the read to focus on the content. However, finally, i simply kept the design of my final and principal theme, as you can see it now. I made this choice to keep an easy utilisation without getting out of the easy use of Hugo.

Stip seems perfect to introduce myself with professional graphic. I want at the end to link it to my main page. Doing myself photography, it won’t be difficult to use a picture of mind, without right issues, to use as a background.

However, I never succeeded in finding a way to implement two different themes in Hugo. To this purpose, I used direcly the html files once they are created but the framework is too complex in the way it works. It was still interesting to see more how things works inside Hugo !

Forty

Finally, forty is a perfect, complex and beautiful theme to present all my different works. The module is made of 3 weeks in 2 parts (lab and lecture). The theme enables to depict information about this clearly.

Issues that occurred

I had an issue trying to link pages from those 3 templates as Hugo, as often with those kinds of tools, is not really user-friendly when it comes to try complex tools. Moreover, the use of markdown to highlight text and for a layout is all new for me. As simple as it is, it does not enable easily all my ideas and I had to discover its documentation.

Hosting

The blog will be hosted on a public github as I often used this tool and already published with it on Open Source projects. Therefore, presenting this account for professional promotion soon appears to be a good idea.

  • Unity setup

Setting up the unity 3D environment has been a pretty easy task. The harder was to apply to the github student program. That way it became possible to download a full version of Unity.

Then, I had to downloaded modules : Visual studio was needed of course. I commonly use the jetbrain API to work. However, Visual Studio is perfectly implemented with Unity, so I discovered this software.

Moreover, as an Iphone user, I had to download the Android build Support and to emulate on Mac an Android OS to test my future applications.

To emulate Android, I decided to use a common, widespread and effective tool : BlueStacks as it seemed to be both a leader on the market and to offer free access.
